Beginners' Guide

What if I'm not flexible or strong?

Well, that’s just what we’re here for! You don’t need to be strong or flexible to start. With time and practice yoga or Pilates practice will help improve your mobility and strength. We all have to start somewhere!

What classes should I start with?

There are lots of classes that are beginner friendly at ALIVE. Head over to our classes page, filter the classes by Beginner Friendly, and read the descriptions to find something that fits what you would like out of your practice.

How much is my first class?

Your first class is free! We would absolutely love to show you our studios and know that you will love them. If you want to take some more classes after you free class, we have a 2 week trial for only $35.

When should I arrive for my first class?

Please try to come 10-15 minutes before your first class so you can get registered. We’ll give you a tour around the studio and answer any questions you may have as well!

Where can I park? How do I get to the studio?

If you go to the bottom of any page on this site, there’s a bunch of info about both studios. We suggest clicking Get Directions because there are detailed directions whether you’re walking, driving or taking transit.

What should I wear?

You should wear whatever will allow you a full range of motion. For more vigorous classes like FLOW and for our heated classes, be prepared to sweat. You will also be expected to take off your shoes when you enter the studio. All of our classes are taken bare-foot.

What should I bring?

You will need a yoga mat. If you don’t have your own, we rent high quality mats for $2 per use. It’s also good to bring a water bottle and a towel. If you would like to lock your stuff up in our lockers, bring a lock as well.

Studio Etiquette

Please arrive on time

Please try to arrive at least 5 minutes early for your classes. This will allow you to have a cup of tea, set up your mat and get comfy without disrupting your fellow students.

Please leave personal belongings in lockers

Please try to minimize bringing personal belongings in the practice rooms. We have tons of lockers for you to leave your clothing and bags. If you bring valuables into the practice rooms, please ensure they are confined to your personal space and that your phones are off.

Please be mindful of your volume

We’ve created a peaceful space for you to enjoy and we ask that you please keep voices quiet, especially in our near the practice rooms. We definitely encourage chats in our reception lounge and would love for you to meet the community while respecting the relaxation of others enjoying the studio.
